WYSA Rules & Regulations

The WYSA Rules and Regulations govern Registration, League-specific match rules, Discipline, and Match Officials. For the outdoor soccer season, the WYSA Rules and Regulations and FIFA Laws of the Game shall apply.

The FIFA Laws of the Game were developed to govern the specifics of match play in an effort to create consistency throughout the sanctioned soccer world. For example, these laws define what a free kick is, what offside is, or the rules for taking a kick from the penalty mark. FIFA has developed and maintains these Laws on a yearly basis. In some cases, there may be an overlap between the WYSA Rules and Regulations and the FIFA Laws of the Game so it is important to be familiar with both, especially as one may supersede the other.

In addition to the WYSA Rules and Regulations and FIFA Laws of the Game, the Manitoba Soccer Association has also developed a set of rules to govern the playing of the indoor game, again to create consistency in play throughout the province. FIFA technically does not recognize indoor soccer so this is necessary. The MSA Indoor Rules of Play were created to cover situations where the FIFA Laws of the Game are silent. For the indoor soccer season, the WYSA Rules and Regulations, FIFA Laws of the Game, and MSA Indoor Rules of Play shall apply.
